Q: When gargling after inhaling symbicort, is it enough to gargle with water? What then?
Thankful for this site. Had it not been from advice learned here, I would not know to rinse out mouth after using symbicort inhalant.
A: If you already have thrush than do what the above answer says. If not water is just fine. swallow it. Drink soda, or hot chocolate or anything simply to wash away the particles. The particles that will go into your stomach are harmless.
Q: Does anyone else gag when they rinse their mouth after taking a dose of Symbicort?
The aftertaste is putrid but I take Symbicort because Advair Diskus would give me sore throats after a few days and Symbicort doesn’t. I’m just wondering if it’s just me or anyone else has the joy of experiencing this twice a day.
A: My daughter takes Symbicort, and she doesn’t mind it. So that would be a no. =D
Good Luck!

Q: Is there a difference between ProAir and Symbicort inhalers?
I recently just switched to Symbicort from ProAir.. Is there any differences i should kno about before taking this new inhaler? I have Advair 500/50 as well.. Is Symbicort a rescue inhaler??
A: Symbicort is not a rescue inhaler. Symbicort is a combination product containing Budesonide + Formoterol. Budesonide is an inhaled corticosteroid and Formoterol is a long acting Beta 2 agonist (LAB2A). To take Symbicort, take 2 inhalations twice a day. This medication is indicated for individuals 12 years old and older.
Advair 500/50 is also a combination product containing Fluticasone + Salmeterol. Fluticasone is an inhaled corticosteroid and Salmeterol is a LAB2A. This medication is also taken twice a day and is indicated for children 4 years or older.
ProAir is a rescue medication. It is a short acting Beta 2 agonist.
More likely, Symbicort was substituted for Advair not ProAir. Check with your doctor or pharmacist.
Q: Does anyone know of possible side effects from using Symbicort?
I have had asthma since I was a child. My doctor suggested that I give Symbicort a try, since it is used to prevent asthma symptoms. I have been using it for about a week and I seem to be experiencing some odd side effects, kind of like the flu (or I actually have the flu).
Is anyone else using this medication, and if so, with or without side effects?
Thanks in advance for your responses!!
A: I don’t use this medication and I do not have asthma, but here are some of the common side effects:
- headaches
- upper respiratory tract infection like the common cold
- throat pain
- stomach pain/ upset stomach
- sinus infection
- flu symptoms
- back pain
- nasal congestion
- nausea/vomiting
- thrush
- diarrhea
- voice change
- muscle spasms
- urinary tract infection
- dizziness
- headaches including migraines and tension headaches
Q: How long would it take to feel a symbicort overdose? would you know if it was happening?
Ok so I just woke up and realized I didn’ t take my symbicort yet after taking a nap, so i took it. Now I am starting to second guess myself… maybe I did take it a few hours ago… I am pretty sure I didn’t but if I were to overdose how long would it take to feel the symptoms?
A: well if you have any of these symptoms: # Shakiness (tremor)
# Runny nose
# Vomiting
# Increased salivation
# Chest pain
# High blood pressure (hypertension) or low blood pressure (hypotension)
# Heart palpitations (feelings of a rapidly or forcefully beating heart)
# Rapid heart rate (tachycardia)
# Nervousness
# Muscle cramps
# Dry mouth
# Insomnia or fatigue
if you dont have any of these you should be fine, then again, it wouldn’t be a huge deal if you od on a corticosteroid. you should be fine, just dont take anymore for the next 24 hours
Q: Whats the difference between symbicort= budesonide/formoterol and oxis formoterol?
I know that symbicort has formoterol in it as well as budesonide, but why us there also a formoterol oxis inhaler as welll, which ine would be more effective? and what does each of these drugs do differently
A: There is evidence that COPD rather than asthma patients may benefit from Oxis alone, getting little from the inhaled steroid. It also allows the flexibility of adding further doses and intermediate doses of Oxis, which can also be used as a reliever to the fixed Symbicort dose.
Q: What does Symbicort do to my swollen bronch tubes?
My doctor put me on it because I’m hoarse and really really tired. How long does it take to TAKE AFFECT. I’ve been on it 5 days and “maybe” notice a little more energy.
A: Symbicort reduces the inflammation, swelling, of the bronchial tubes thereby helping you to move air more easily. Just do what your doctor suggests, that’s why they get the big bucks.
God bless.
Q: Does anyone know the North American equivalent to the German asthma inhaler ‘Symbicort’?
I used a very effective inhaler in Germany called Symbicort. I’m looking for the North American equivalent.
Does anyone know what the equivalent is?
A: Symbicort should be available in the US this summer. Ask your doctor and pharmacist about it.
http://www.symbicort-us.com/
If for some reason you cant get it, Advair is like symbicort with two medications in one dry powder inhaler.
Q: How long does it take for Symbicort to reduce the swelling in my Bronchial tubes?
A: The RT didnt answer the question…. This medicine does reduce swelling (inflammation). It is a corticosteroid and a long acting b2 agonist. Budesonide and formosterol I think.
While a long acting B2 agonists are for maintance and NOT rescue. You might find that the formoterol will open you up pretty quick…. The steroids since they are inhaled will work rather quickly, I’m not sure on exact time and that might differ between people and how bad their asthma is but I would say within a day the swelling reduces, and you will open up with the b2 agonist rather quickly, probably 20 minutes, but not as quickly as a rescue.
Q: im taking the symbicort for my athsma is it possible ill becom anumed to it?
if i take the symbicort too much can i get anumed to it then ill have to take more or no
A: Take it the way the doctor tells you, then you will get the best result.
Q: Why/How does advair and symbicort increase the risk of asthma related death?
Just wondering, I take a lot of advair for my asthma.
Again…How/Why
A: Advair contains a long acting bronchodilator. Although generally safe, overusing the drug past what is prescribed to you can be very bad.
Q: In the advertisement for Symbicort, they show a man wiping down a green pick up truck.?
The truck is an older truck. I say its about a 1951 or 53 Ford and its green, anyone seen this and know what year and make the truck is?
A: Not positive but think 55 or 56.
Q: Can someone tell me the difference between Advair Diskus and Symbicort? Which works better for asthma?
A: Well it’s like Coke and Pepsi. What’s your flavor? Both have a steroid and a Long Acting Beta Agonists drug in them. Most people who get advair get the diskus. It’s a big bulky purple disk that contains a powder. Advair has an inhaler but I dont see that used as much for some reason. If you choose Advair, ask for the HFA inhaler not the disckus.
As far as inhaling the powder, it takes more force and some do not like inhaling a powder when they are having a breathing problem.
The doctor will have samples of both, I would suggest trying one or the other for at least a month. If you don’t think its working, switch.
Q: Asthma: What are your thoughts on Symbicort inhaler?
I’d like to know what people think of symbicort inhaler, if you have been prescribed it before. Good or bad? And why?!
Thanks!
A: ive been using it for over twelve months now without any problem as i start the day with spriva one dose and three doses of 320/9 micros of symicort my breathing as eased a lot and a major plus unlike othere inhalers its steriod free
Q: Asthmatics- Have you recently been given a new type inhaler called Symbicort?
How are you getting on with it.
I hate mine it tastes horrible and I have to rinse my mouth every time I use it and it still makes my tongue sore.
Do you think my doc will let me go back to my old brown clenil inhaler?
A: yeah i got symbicort have had no probs with it. its much better than clenil try and stick with it or else you could try seretide this was great for me for ages
