Q: Question about a medication?
Now I went into the emergency room and they told me I had Bronchitus. . .he perscribed me a symbicort inhaler, but I looked it up online and it’s for Asthma, not bronchitus. . .??? What gives? I did not get an anti biotic which is what I went in for , and when I asked for one of those stop smoking medications, he gives me an anti depressent?? What the hell? I know I’m bi-polar, but my psychiatrist told me there’s no such thing as an addictive personality, and that my smoking is not related to bi polar?? Does this sound fishy to you? I think this guy is trying to play psychiatrist. . .if I still feel like crap in a couple of days what do you think I should do?
A: If you have bronchitis, an inhaler will help. When you start coughing uncontrollably, use it and it will open up the bronchi in your lungs and help you to quit coughing. The anti depressant is a quit smoking aid. You asked for one, so they prescribed it. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. You should give it a try unless you’re on another medication for bipolar, then you should let the doctor know before combining both medications. You still should be on an antibiotic. Try going back and requesting one.
Q: Problem with pain under ribs that has been going on for years?
So, I don’t know how long it has been going on, but I get these pains under my ribcage. I know it has been going on for a few years, but it was never constant. Maybe once or twice a month. It’s always under the part of my ribs that is not covered by my breasts, but it’s always under my ribs. Never down farther. It has always been in my left side until yesterday when it happened once in my right side. Sometimes it seems to be close to my left side, and then other times it’s closer to the middle of my abdomen. It seems to be directly beneath my ribs. The pain is quick and sharp and I can’t breathe when it’s going on, but it comes on so suddenly that I have no idea if it happens only when I am breathing in. It usually only lasts a second or two, but sometimes it can be more, but never more than a minute.
It has been happening a lot lately. In fact, yesterday it happened four times. Three times in the left side of my abdomen, and once in the right.
Some Medical history:
I have asthma and use Albuterol at least twice a day. I used to be on Advair for 3 years, but it seems to make me gain weight so I quit using it. Two weeks ago now, my doctor put me on Symbicort.
I have had chronic kidney stones since I was 6, having to have surgeries about once every year to year and a half since I was 15. I take nothing specifically for this; usually not even pain meds when i have them.
I have allergies and take one Zyrtec everyday starting in September of 2009.
I have PMDD and take a 250 mg tablet of magnesium everyday because I read online that it could possibly help with PMDD and Kidney stones. Further readings indicated that even if that was not the case, I still was not getting enough Magnesium everyday, and figured I might as well start taking it whether it really helps or not.
I’m not a big drinker, though over the holidays I was drunk for a good percentage of the time. However, in the last tree weeks, I have only consumed alcohol once.
I do not smoke regularly. I tried smoking for the first time about a month ago, but I have never smoked an entire cigarette, and I only smoke when I am drunk. Which as I said before is not very often, especially for a college student. I’m not around it very often either.
Help?
A: It could possibly be your gallbladder or you could be aggravating your pancreas – So have you gone to the MD about this yet – Since you are on so many meds, I would let the Md know what happening – It could possibly be your medication that is responsible for your problem
