Q: Does anyone know the North American equivalent to the German asthma inhaler ‘Symbicort’?
I used a very effective inhaler in Germany called Symbicort. I’m looking for the North American equivalent.
Does anyone know what the equivalent is?
A: Symbicort should be available in the US this summer. Ask your doctor and pharmacist about it.
http://www.symbicort-us.com/
If for some reason you cant get it, Advair is like symbicort with two medications in one dry powder inhaler.
Q: Asthmatics- Have you recently been given a new type inhaler called Symbicort?
How are you getting on with it.
I hate mine it tastes horrible and I have to rinse my mouth every time I use it and it still makes my tongue sore.
Do you think my doc will let me go back to my old brown clenil inhaler?
A: yeah i got symbicort have had no probs with it. its much better than clenil try and stick with it or else you could try seretide this was great for me for ages
Q: Does asthma cause snoring? I was wondering because when I do not use my symbicort inhaler People say I snore!?
They say they do not notice any snoring, and that is usually when I have taken my inhaler Thanks for your answers!.
A: asthma doesn’t cause snoring
Q: Is there a difference between ProAir and Symbicort inhalers?
I recently just switched to Symbicort from ProAir.. Is there any differences i should kno about before taking this new inhaler? I have Advair 500/50 as well.. Is Symbicort a rescue inhaler??
A: Symbicort is not a rescue inhaler. Symbicort is a combination product containing Budesonide + Formoterol. Budesonide is an inhaled corticosteroid and Formoterol is a long acting Beta 2 agonist (LAB2A). To take Symbicort, take 2 inhalations twice a day. This medication is indicated for individuals 12 years old and older.
Advair 500/50 is also a combination product containing Fluticasone + Salmeterol. Fluticasone is an inhaled corticosteroid and Salmeterol is a LAB2A. This medication is also taken twice a day and is indicated for children 4 years or older.
ProAir is a rescue medication. It is a short acting Beta 2 agonist.
More likely, Symbicort was substituted for Advair not ProAir. Check with your doctor or pharmacist.
Q: Can I continue using my symbicort inhaler past the expiry date?
I have very mild asthma. I have been prescribed symbicort to use when I have problems which is very rare – seemingly only when I get a cold once or twice each year.
I have a chest cold now and needed to use my inhaler for the first time in ages. I noticed it expired last spring, but I took a puff anyway and it seemed to work. I still have 3/4 of the symbicort left (80 of 120 doses) so I would prefer to not have to fork out another $100 (no benefits unfortunately) if I don’t absolutely need to.
Anyone know if I am might be doing damage using past the expiry date?
Thanks!!
A: They have a large fudge factor on those expiration dates. So relax and do it.Also, go see your doc he/she might want to take a look at you.
Q: Symbicort inhaler for asthma, advice please…?
I understand that a side effect of symbicort could be depression…. I am really interested to know if anyone has experienced this side effect from taking it?
I have been on symbicort for over a month and have notice a change in my perceptions and moods. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, did it ease with time?
*It’s not necessarily depression, I have just noticed a change in my moods.
A: I have been on symbicort for over 5 years now. I have never had any side effects and it has really got my asthma under control.
Q: who gained weight on symbicort inhaler 160?
A: ALL steroids will make you gain weight. A rise in cortisol natural or fake will raise levels of insulin tremendously.
Q: symbicort inhaler 160 makes me hoarse couple hrs per day. anyone else experience this? any cures?
A: Symbicort contains steroids… The proper procedure of taking it is Rince ur mouth and throat thoroughly by gargling after taking it… this is because, around 95% of the drug settles down in the throat and only 5% of it goes into lungs and acts… In the throat it causes supression of the local immunity and can cause infection.. Most commonly candidiasis.. So this is making u feel sore or hoarse….
For this what u have to do is
1) Consult ur doctor and get it checked whether u have got any candidiasis, if yes, get it treated.. it can be treated easily..
2) If any other infection, consult ur gp again for appropriate antibiotics..
3) start practicing correct method of inhalation…
Q: Can Symbicort lengthen menstrual cycle?
I have been using Symbicort Inhaler for a couple of weeks and my cycle has lengthened from my average of 25 days to 31 days and I still have not gotten my period. I have not had sex this last cycle so I cannot be pregnant. Does anyone know if Inhalers can affect your cycle?
A: Yes, it can have the potential to lengthen the cycle because of the cortisone that is in it (if that is one of the active ingredients in the medication).
I had something like this happen to me and my doctor asked if I was taking steroids in the injections I was getting from the Pain Management doctor.
I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what they say.
Q: Any Indian substitute for SYMBICORT TURBUHALER (budesonide/formotorel)INHALER from SWEDEN.?
It is an inhaler from Sweden with 60/120 inhaling dozes containing some inhaling powder for Asthamatic disease.
Can you pl. suggest some India made tablet or inhaler of similar value?
A: They should have this drug available in India, just from a different manufacturer.
If you can’t find it, go to the nearest pharmacy and see if there’s something comparable that will work instead.
Q: I am 52 yr male diagnised as asthma patient. Dr prescribed inhaler named”SYMBICORT” Budessonite formoterol?
Some times i use it sometimes no. But when i feel heavy in my chest i use this inhaler or sometimes Nebulizer using 2ml Combivent or Pulmicort.
Now my question is using inhaler or nebulizer gives the same benefit or Ihaler is more powerful than the nebulizer.
Cos some Drs say using Inhalers can cause dependence on inhalers and person will get FAt which is true in my case.
So any body used the two can tell me the difference so dat i will not buy the inhaler or not use the nebulizer if i find out which is more safer and powerful for asthma.
Thank you god bless
A: Simply read the instructions written by the pharmacist on the package the medications came in. Use the nebulizer as directed, 2 or 3 times a day. Take the Symbicort as directed, usually twice a day. You could take the Symbicort after the nebulizer treatments for maximum effectiveness. Of course if the Symbicort is only ordered twice a day and the nebulizer is ordered three times then it would be best to use the Symbicort after the first and last treatment.
The inhaler, you should carry with you all the time. This is for emergency use like if you’re at work and you get short of breath you take a couple of puffs of the inhaler for relief.
By using your medications properly you should have fewer and fewer problems.
God bless.
Q: Symbicort making asthma worse?
My symbicort inhaler has actually always helped me, but the past few days after I use it my lungs feel like they are closing up. I usually take two puffs each dose and this morning my I was so scared i was about to close up completely after the first puff that I used my rescue inhaler which then opened my lungs up.
Whats the deal? Should I keep using it?
A: Maybe you developed a inhalational sensitivity to the powder .. I am not sure why this happens … but there is some anectdotal evidence that this happens ….
You may want to try taking your rescue inhaler first … then taking your symbicort 15-20 minutes later …. this maybe just that your airways are a little more “twitchy” than usual ….. you may want to make a visit with your doctor and discuss your concerns and findings…..
My overriding concern is that you do not take your medicine and if your on a fringe of a severe bronchial hyperresponsiveness episode, this may tip you into a hospital admission or an ER visit …. not saying that it will … but .. better safe than sorry?
Q: Whats the difference between symbicort= budesonide/formoterol and oxis formoterol?
I know that symbicort has formoterol in it as well as budesonide, but why us there also a formoterol oxis inhaler as welll, which ine would be more effective? and what does each of these drugs do differently
A: There is evidence that COPD rather than asthma patients may benefit from Oxis alone, getting little from the inhaled steroid. It also allows the flexibility of adding further doses and intermediate doses of Oxis, which can also be used as a reliever to the fixed Symbicort dose.
Q: Can I put an expired asthma inhaler in my carry-on luggage? Or would it cause suspicion?
I was wondering if I could carry-on an EXPIRED Symbicort 200 Turbhaler (Asthma inhaler)…
A: The TSA is not in the habit of checking expiration dates on prescription drugs when they inspect your luggage, so you will be fine.
