Q: If human suffers from allergies symptoms, do they have to take medicine for their whole life?
OK, here’s the deal. Let just say that the culprit is the bad/cold/stuffy weather and you wake up in the morning, either having unstoppable sneezing or runny nose (as if having flu). Should you be constantly on pills or medication to get rid of the allergies? Or is there any other way to make the sneezing/flu stop?

A: there is a way!! i have the same problem and found the solution last year and have been symptoms free since then!
the best way is to rinse out your nose with a betti pot. its a very simple process with NO side effects like meds have, besides breathing clearly haha.
dont use plastic ones though because the chemicals in the plastic eventually break down and cause more problems. go with ceramic made netis. i have a betti pot and it works wonders. feel better!

Q: I think I have allergies what are the symptoms for allergy?
My head hurts as well as my throat and chest. My mom said it could be allergies. What are the symptoms for allergies and does it bother you when it rains???

A: too many to list -try Claritin and see your doctor.

Q: Why do allergies produce different symptoms?
Why do some allergies produce cold-like symptoms and others cause nausea or hives?
Which of the following are the correct answers?

a. Different allergens stimulate the release of different chemicals, other than histamine.

b. Since mast cells are found in tissues rather than in blood, the symptoms will match where the antigen runs into the mast cell/antibody complex.

c. Only respiratory allergies involve the release of histamine from mast cells.

d. none of these

A: what?

Q: How can you tell the difference btwn allergies and swine flu symptoms?
I have a runny nose, and I usually have allergies around this time. My throat is also itchy, but so far I do not have any other symptoms.

A: with a flu you will develop a fever, aches and pains, possibly sore throat (swollen, hard to swallow), sometimes neausea or vomiting and chills. These will develop rapidly within a few days and you will know that you have more than just allergies. It does not sound like flu symptoms at all…most likely hay fever but if you develop more serious symptoms like those described then I would see a doctor- better safe than sorry BUT only if you have more serious symptoms- NOT just for a runny nose- that is a waste of the doctors and your time.

Q: What are some symptoms of severe eye allergies?
What are some symptoms of severe eye allergies? or some results of severe eye allergies?

Anything from contacts to redness; and I already know Conjunctivitis…
If you can name some symptoms of allergies such as Conjunctivitis that would be very good.

A: It’s not that your eyes have allergies, you have allergies and your reaction to them affect your eyes. Most people experience dryness, they feel hot, excessive exudate (puss or “sleep”), a feeling that you have sand in them, reduction of or inability to produce tears and blurriness or feeling that there is a “film” on them, watering (like you’re crying when you’re not), puffiness and “bags” under your eyes. A lot of people who have “hayfever” or seasonal allergies to pollens experience this quite frequently. If you have allergies and it is affecting your eyes in such a manner, you shouldn’t wear contact lenses as they can dry out your eyes further and exacerbate your symptoms. Some people have reported an allergy to contact lenses. Talk to your doctor or make an appointment with an allergist. They can give you some great eye drops like Patanol ™ which is by prescription only and also evaluate you for other allergy symptoms and/or test you to find out the culprit(s). Hope this helps. Good luck to you!

Q: Onion allergies: Symptoms, what kind, how to avoid?
Hello. I have an onion allergy that causes me to get migraines. I was wondering if anyone else has this type of allergy. Do you notice that it affects you with all types of onions? Does it carry over to other things in the onion family? Do you notice that dehydrated onions, or them in powder form? How do you handle your allergy with different foods? What can I do prevent attacks after I go out to eat? Any advice, or your stories would be very helpful! Thank you in advance!!

A: Yes I suffer from the same symptoms. Occasionally with sinusitus as well. I have only just made the link between the 2. I have suffered from migraines for some time now but was unable to determine the cause. I am 99% sure it is onions.
I am not sure about powdered onions or dehydrated but i know that raw onions seem far worse than cooked. It usually takes me 2 or 3 days to feel completely better. Sound like what you experience?

Q: Are these symptoms related to allergies?
I have a heavy, tight chest, I get a little dizzy from time to time, recently I’ve been getting these awful headaches, when I suck in a huge breath of air, my chest hurts just a little bit (nothing severe) and I have jaw and throat tightness from time to time. Are these symptoms associated with seasonal allergies or could it be some sort of food allergy that I don’t realize or something totally unrelated to allergies? I’m allergic to cats, pollen, mold and bees.

A: it sounds more like a food allergy than seasonal allergies, but it doesn’t really sound terribly like a food allergy – all of my food allergic reactions have been accompanied by stomach cramping, nausea, vomiting, etc. that isn’t to say that it’s not a food allergy! either go get allergy testing done or start keeping a food diary. Remember, with food allergies, it might be a reaction to something you ate hours and hours ago, not just recently. you can also try an elimination diet, which will help to determine which food it is and even if it is a food allergy, although they can be a bit difficult.

Q: What are symptoms of allergies towards animals in young children?
Everytime we go to a relatives house who has cats/dogs, my 20 month old’s cheeks get really red and he gets cranky, do you think it could be due to allergies? P.S. I have allergies to cats, dogs, seasonal and foods, so they run in my family.

A: Sounds like your little boy (or girl, whichever the case
may be) has a genuine allergy to doggies & kitty-cats.
Seriously: if you say it runs in your family, well… then
you’ve more or less answered your own question –
because allergies are heriditary.
I think you know what the next question should be: the
one about when you can make a doctor’s appointment.

Best of health & good luck.

Q: I’m confused about allergies…. during “allergy season”, do symptoms stick around or come and go?
Everyone is telling me that both of my children (5 and 1) could have allergies. They both have had several “colds” within the last few months and they always get it at the same time. I don’t have allergies myself, but I always assumed that you would have allergy symptoms throughout the entire allergy season. But am I wrong? Do the symptoms come and go?

A: Symptoms come and go when the allergen flares. For example if you are allergic to pollen you are always allergic to pollen there are just specific days that the pollen count is high enough to cause you to have allergy symptoms. The same goes for the common allergens like mold, dust, ragweed, etc.

Q: Does anyone have allergies where the symptoms are worst in the morning, and how do you handle them?
I have spring and summer allergies and they are in full force. I wake up and my nose is stuffed, my ears are plugged, my eyes are puffy and my mouth is dry from snoring all night. It takes a few hours for my head to drain and with an allergy pill I’m usually o.k. for the day but it just seems to build back up during the night. What are some pill usages or types of allergy meds or other remedies that can make my mornings not suck?

A: I used to have the worst allergies. I went to my allergy doctor when I was about.. maybe 13 or so. He ran some tests on me, and I was really allergic to some trees, grasses, molds, weeds, and dust. I started taking Zyrtec, which helped. I also used Flonase for a nasal spray, but he recently filled a prescription for a new nasal spray in case we needed it. I also started getting allergy shots every week, and now I’m down to about every other week. I’ve had the shots for probably 2 to 3 years now, and they have helped so much. My allergies aren’t as severe anymore, and I only have to take my pill when they get bad. I take Aller-Tec now, and it works pretty well.

Q: I think I have food allergies. Can you tell by my symptoms what allergy I have?
I have been suffering from IBS for years and I can’t go a week without having at least two migraines. Do you think I have food allergies?

A: What I have been hearing a lot lately is that Dr’s/people are confusing/getting wrong diagnosis for IBS- that it is really celiac/gluten intolerance.
I would try a gluten free diet for a week and see if that clears up any/all symtoms.
Good luck!

Q: Why do allergies and other symptoms of sickness worsen at night time?
It seems like everytime I’m sick and I go to bed my symptoms get worse.

A: Ive noticed that too. I get sick and its bearable during the day but at night, it gets alot worse…I honestly have no idea why???

Q: What could cause allergy-like symptoms and not be allergies?
For several years now, the dr. has been treating me for allergies. BUT even when I take the meds as directed, I still come down w/respiratory infections, at least once per year. On top of that, I take thyroid medication, a daily vitamin, and additional iron supplements yet I’m still exhausted when I get home from work. (The last time I went to the dr he said I was “down a pint,” meaning that there is a low red-blood cell count, as I underestood.) Also, I haven’t been able to smell anything or taste anything for months now–everything tastes/smells like either wet sawdust or ashes, whether I cook it or eat out, whether it’s gas being pumped into the car or flowers. Any comments?? TIA.

A: I don’t have any idea but what I can tell you a couple of things that will improve your health:

Clean up your diet. The American diet is horrible. Stop eating anything with added sugar. Sugar weakens the immune system. Stop consuming carbonated beverages and stop eating fast food, processed foods, and foods with artificial ingredients, including artificial sweeteners. Once you take control of cooking all your own food you will know for sure exactly what is in your diet.
Trust me you will be healthier and have more energy. Fresh fruits, veggies and lean meats are just what you need. Drink lots of water also.

Secondly, get a flu shot every year. There has been recent study in children that proved that when kids get a flu shot they get less colds. It works the same way in adults. It supports the immune system. There are those out there that have the idea vaccines aren’t good for you but the research just doesn’t back them up. If you have immune system problems (you appear to) it makes sense to do the most that you can to support your immune system. If you take away the things that may be harming your body it will have a better chance at working correctly.

You should see an ENT(ear nose and throat doctor) about the loss of taste and sense of smell.
