Q: I have bad cat allergies and need something to help me while on vacation?
Hey. So in June i’m going to stay with my best friend in another country for a month. I have pretty bad cat allergies; from runny nose & itchy eyes to anaphylactic (throat closes up) reaction & my eyes swollen shut. Unfortunately my bf has 3 cats and lives in a relatively small 2bdrm where the cats roam free. I have tried reactine but it doesnt work. My inhaler and sitting in front of the air conditioner helps when my throat is closed and i can’t breathe. I’m looking for something, anything to help me while i’m there.
Please refrain from telling me not to stay there, my ticket is booked, i just need any help i can get. thanks =)
A: Go to the doctor to get tested for the best allergy treatment for you. It involves tests and subsequent testing of products best for you. Eventually you may grow out of the allergy.
Q: Allergies. Help.?
Home remedies for my son’s allergies that he has trouble with EVERY year. I feel so sorry for him. He wears contacts too and it gets so bad in his eye he can’t wear them sometimes. Like right now so does anyone have an answer. I have heard honey will help so I am going to start that but that takes a while to get in your system. Anything esle anyone????
A: Have him take bee pollen, which you can find at your health food store;also rubber some sesame oil in his nostrils with a Q-tip.This will relief allergy symptoms as well.
Q: Allergies, help!?
I started to develop allergies to something outside about 5 years ago. I have been using Clariton, but this year is so bad I feel sick; my cheeks hurt and my forehead feels like it is ready to explode. Almost like a hangover or something. Any ideas?
A: Go to the Doctor and explain to him that the Claritin isn’t working anymore. I’m sure he will give you something else to try.

Q: Allergies HELP?
Ughh, Allergie season I hate Allergie season I have a case of severe allergies, throat hurts, sneezing constantly, nausia, blurry vision. Argh, how do I get better?!
A: Get allergy medications and/or shots, get a dehumidifier, wash sheets and blankets a lot, don’t have a lot of stuffed animals in your room, vacuum and mow the lawn with a mask on, and if you get dust on your face wash your face right away and avoid situations that you come in contact with your allergens, and if you’re allergic to mold don’t go by moldy food or open a bag of moldy bread, the spores spread really fast! Hope everything works out same stuff happens to me all year! it sucks, hope you feel better, and don’t take this lightly I have come soo close to death just from not being careful!

Q: Allergies HeLp!!!?
I am allergic to most sunscreens, and i have been using coppertone mist alcohol spray for about 2 years and have never had an allergic reaction to it. Today i sprayed it onto my hands and then put it on my face and it started to sting and throb really intensely, so i washed it off, and i felt better, but i still have a residual stinging and irritation… what can i do to make it feel better, since its mainly my eyes that hurt even though i have washed all of it off?
A: *Green tea: This common table tea has a natural antihistamine. Drink one or two cups a day and sweeten with honey. You can also use black tea, since it is from the same plant as green tea, but it isn’t as effective.
*Honey: Make sure you purchase local honey. Use it to sweeten teas, or a small amount of it plain. Local honey can help you became resistant to certain pollens. The beneficial qualities of honey are lost, however, when it is cooked.
*Chamomile Tea: This popular tea is also a natural antihistamine. Drink one or two cups a day and sweeten with honey. Don’t use if you are allergic to ragweed because it can make your symptoms worst.
*Ginger: Peel and crush a one-inch piece of fresh ginger root. Place in a mug and pour boiling water over. Steep for 5-10 minutes. Sweeten with honey, if desired. Ginger is both a natural antihistamine and a mild decongestant.
*Garlic: Garlic helps stimulate the immune system and is also a decongestant and used for coughs. Cook with it as much you can. If you enjoy the taste, add it raw to salads and salad dressings because fresh is more effective.
*Peppermint Tea: This tea is used to help relieve congestion. In the warmer weather, it tastes refreshing iced and can help relieve sinus problems and coughs.
*Thyme: This is also a wonderful tea for congestion. It can be used for coughs, sinus problems, and stuffy noses. Prepare a tea using one teaspoon of the dried herb for every cup of water. Never take more than one cup per day. You can also use it in cooking.
*Oatmeal: If your allergies give you hives, oatmeal can be really useful. Pour one cup of boiling water over one tablespoon oatmeal. Let it steep for thirty minutes. Strain it, and then apply the liquid on your hives with a cotton ball. This also works to relive bug bites. Refrigerate the solution and use it in a few days. You can also make this in larger amounts and put it in your bathwater (about four cups of water and four tablespoons of oatmeal).
*Apple cider vinegar: My grandmother used to have me put apple cider vinegar on any bug bites or hives to cut down on the itching. Just dilute the vinegar down with a little water and apply it with a cotton ball. You can also put a little vinegar in your bath.
Q: How to help allergies when you have high blood pressure?
I know there are tons of allergy medications, however, my mom has high blood pressure so she is restricted to most medications for allergies. Any suggestions?
A: Patients with high blood pressure still have options with allergy meds, it’s the decongestant part of medications that she shouldn’t take but antihistamines are fine. Brand names differ from country to country but as long as she asks the pharmacist for a straight antihistamine (either sedating or a newer non-drowsy one will be fine) then she can get relief. Sedating ones will make her tired but are great for drying up running noses and itchy skin whereas the newer non-drowsy ones work directly on the histamines being released from the body because of whatever she’s allergic to. These will help with sneezing, running nose, watery eyes etc. A Pharmacist is a great person to talk to about this as they understand about the blood pressure issue and can go through options with her. Hope this helps!
Q: The best ways to treat allergies when you are a singer and actor?
Any information will do. The best medications (ones that don’t cause drowsiness or dry throat but clear up mucus), food tips, products, exercises, anything. I am a lead in a theater production but have pollen/dust allergies that constantly affect both my nose and throat. I just want to find the best ways possible to deal with allergies so that I can do my best for performances. Thnx for any help!
A: Get a neti pot. They sell them at most herbal/alternative medicine stores. It’s just this little thing that looks like a teapot. You put a warm saline solution in it and put it in one nostril and tip your head. The solution goes through and clears out your nose and sinuses.
I know- it sounds kind of nasty to think about, but it doesn’t hurt at all and if you do it once or twice a day it will do wonders for your allergies. Obviously it can’t cure them or anything, but it will moisturize your sinuses- good to prevent an infection- and clear irritants out of your nose.
For your throat I would recommend sucking on a throat drop, like Halls or something. It will help your sore throat. If that’s the problem. If it’s postnasal drainage, that’s what the neti pot is for.
Q: What is the best pill to take for outdoor/indoor allergies?
I have outdoor/indoor allergies and I absolutely HATE them. Yesterday, I was filming a video. After the video, I got an allergy attack. I used Zyrtec but it didn’t help me out so much. Usually it works, but at times it doesn’t do anything to help me. Any suggestions on what pills to take for my allergies?
A: I have bad hayfever and pet allergies. I take Loratadine when I need a quick relief and it helps every time. Normally I take Zyrtec like you, but Loratadine is a quick acting antihistamine so it’s great for allergy attacks! My mum has severe pet allergies which trigger her asthma and Benadryl seems to work for her.
Q: What’s the difference between allergies and a cold?
My son and I both have seasonal allergies but instead of being runny, like the antihistamine bottle says, they are stuffy. But we have all the other symptoms like itchy eyes and sneezing. Can someone help me?
A: steam inhalations along with zyrtec ,
Q: How can I stop my allergies from waking me up?
I’m 17 but feel totally exhausted. I may not be a morning person but after an hour I’m usually good to go but I feel oddly sleep deprived and I’m assuming it’s because of my allergies waking me up in the morning. Anti-histamines work when I go to bed but a few hours latter they wear off and i wake up at like 3 am because of a stupid runny nose and red eyes. Any suggestions, help?
A: Hello Julie!
I think that taking your anti-histamine pill as late as possible, like directly before you go to bed can solve the problem. However, if you are already doing this, I suggest switching to another medication with a longer duration of action, or perhaps increasing the dose of the medication you are already using. You have not mentioned the name of your drug. So you should have a talk with your pharmacist.
Several things that may sound minor but really they are not should be done. Make sure that the room you sleep in is free from all the allergens that you are sensitive of. Good ventilation will help. Animal or pet dandruff should be swept frequently. Avoid any air fresheners or perfumes. Better not to have any plants or flowers near you during your sleep.
God bless.
Q: My poor dog has seasonal allergies. Any home remedies I am can give her?
I have an Akita mix, and I have read that they are more likely to get seasonal allergies. But every year about this time she just scratches and scratches. I have given her oatmeal baths, which seems to help for a bit. I have thought about giving her just regular old benedryl, but I am not sure how much to give (she weighs maybe 50 lbs). Any suggestions for either home remedies or products I can buy to help her? I am having a temp money crunch and cant afford to take her to the vet at this moment.
A: i have the same problem with my husky it is a long battle with him and it startes around june/july and he is still suffering. he weighs 96 lbs and the vet says i can give him up to 3 benadryl a day. he has been on prenisone for a few mths which really helps but the side effects are peeing a lot and thirst. i bought him some oatmeal conditioner that you rub on his skin and leave on it soothes his spots also i changed his diet to lamb and rice mix and cut out beef, pork, chicken etc and only give it to him when i cook it.try to keep your dog out of long grass, weeds and wet areas on the ground as it triggers his itch. i just started walking him again since it got cooler and he is happy but is still scratching but not as bad. prenisone is a good source of relief and your best bet is to take her in and get the right meds for her, but you can start with the benadryl and see if it helps and the oat baths are good too. good luck.
Q: What are good ways to get rid of allergies?
Usually my allergy medicine works, but September is always a bad year for my allergies, what can I do to help get rid of these symptoms? Thanks.
A: Try taking a vitamin C three times a day, throughout the day. It is a cheap way to help with allergies.
