Q: Is there a generic drug equivalent to Advair? What do you use to help with YOUR asthma?
I have been taking Advair for years now and it is super expensive and it doesn’t seem to be working as well as it used to either. Does anyone know if Asmanex works liek Advair and is it cheaper? Are there any other generic drugs to help prevent asthma? I have never had a SERIOUS attack but I get mild ones/wheezing off/on. Does anyone use anything herbal that helps with it? Thanks!
Forgot to mention – I usually have asthma in the night/early morning. And sometimes I feel like I can’t catch a full breath – but I have never known if that’s anxiety or asthma and my Dr didnt seem to know either… Also, I tend to get thrush in my throat from the Advair so I’d really like to get away from it !

A: Asmanex is only a steroid to act as a preventative medication. You will still get the thrush from it if you do not rinse you mouth after using it. Your doctor and pharmacist probably didn’t tell you about washing out your mouth. If you don’t you will get thrush. This is a brand new medication so I doubt it would be cheaper.

Advair is a steroid and a bronchodilator. This is a more effective medication. If it is used properly and continuously it is a very good medication. It is only to be used twice a day. You may need to increase the strength.

Anxiety can pose as a mild asthma attack. I have seen this many times. One thing that may help you know the difference is to try what is called pursed-lip breathing. This is done by exhaling with you lips partially closed to slow down the airflow out of your lungs. Do that for several breaths and if you feel better then it is most likely anxiety. If it doesn’t help used your rescue inhalor which should be xopenex, albuterol, or combivent or something of that sort.

If you use your rescue inhalor more than 2 times in a 2 week period then you are using it to much and need an adjustment in medications.

Q: Does Seretide (Advair) work if it does not come in a foil pouch?
I just found out that Seretide is the same thing as Advair, and it is so much cheaper to buy Seretide in Mexico. However, it does not come in a foil pouch like Advair. The Advair instructions emphasize that it is only good for 30 days after opening the foil pouch. So I am wondering if anyone has tried the Seretide from Mexico, without the foil pouch, and if it still works. Thanks for your help.

Q: When will Advair go generic and be more affordable?
I have asthma and absolutely need Advair. Problem is, I won’t have insurance soon (no job yet) and can’t afford $225 a month to pay for the stuff. Does anyone know when it will go generic or do know any cheaper alternatives?

A: Depending on how long it’s been out, at least one year from the time it was released into the market. My fiance is a pharmacist, I can ask him about it. He would definitely know.

Is there a generice that I can buy for SEREVENT, Iknow it is SALMETROL, but is there a cheaper generic. Same for ADVAIR.

A: Unfortunately there are not generic forms of these medications. The discus medications are so new that they are not able to be reproduced to make generic forms.
Its unfortunate that they are so expensive because they are both excellent controlled medications for many with asthma and copd.

Q: What is the cheapest asthma preventative?
I am going to lose my health insurance in July. I am using Advair right now but it cost $250 without insurance. I have to have some form of preventative. I have been out for a week and today I have used my nebulizer 5 times and my inhaler 4 times. When i am on advair regularly I don’t have to use my inhaler or neb at all.

Q: An Advair/asthma Question.?
I’ve taken advair for 3-4 years….it was the miracle drug that helped me get my life back. But then I graduated college and got my own insurance which doesn’t cover it fully. A full 40 out of the 258….I can’t afford 200 a month. Is there anything else I can use that is cheaper…different meds, a generic? I stopped taking it the past 2 years and these past 4 months were so bad I barely be able to breath gasping for air just from walking in the cold air from a building to my car. I need this but can’t afford it and am looking for options.

***Symbicort as far as I know is more expensive than Advair. Cutting back to once a day??? That is so not smart… I have never ever heard of any dr doing that and trust me I have worked at many many many hospitals, rehabs, ltac’s etc…. it is meant to be taken twice a day… the drugs last +/- 12 hours, therefore should be taken twice a day in order to prevent asthma symptoms..

I recently realized that when i used a vaporizer, one bowl basically does what two puffs of advair (a cortico-steroid) do for me right now. i can run all day if i wanted. I lost my job/health insurance, so now it is cheaper for me to just get vaped up by my buddy. I have one friend who got a licence for a pain in his wrist from when i was fractured. A: asthma is usually a symptom of allergies like to weeds and pollen and yes the vapor may help you for now because your resitting is build up.from your meds but once it wares off you will be in chronic despair, get your med hard head or do your home to find out what will work best for you. Alfalfa sprouts, caffeine , to name a few. i have a chronic asthma daughter and i was a pot dealer years ago, another note of knowledge 1 joint has as much nicotine as 4 cigarettes.

Q: I am allergic to toothpaste help?
Ok for a while now i have been allergic to toothpaste and i mean every toothpaste the kids one, the fancy ones, the stupid cheap ones, all of them and every time i use them i either A: get a swollen throat that makes it hard to swallow or B: i have an asthma attack.

Q: Where does the health reform stand on the drug companies?
I have heard a lot about health care but not so much on bring down prices on drugs ! On everyday drugs like advair and spiriva the prices are way too high. I can understand high prices on major health issue’s but canadian drug companies have the same name brand discs three for less than one the price here.I would buy them from walgreens osco if they were cheaper! I get the same quality of relief as I did when I spent 200.00 for one inhaler here. I would like to bring back my business to America but I have no insurance because of pre exsisting asthma so no one will insure me

A: That is a good question! I want to know the answer too. I was watching a news special and Obama was talking about how pharmaseudical companies are overcharging so their CEO’s can live in luxury. It almost made me puke. I live with constant migraines (at least one a week) and I can’t even afford my migraine medication. I do have insurance, but insurance companies are picky on what they cover.

I also work at a small rural clinic. Our reimbursement from Medicaid and Medicare is being cut drastically. Now I see why many places don’t accept these insurances.
